Spirals

“Spirals” is an artwork that symbolizes the “constant evolution” and “infinite possibilities” that are the essence of life.

The waves depicted in the video reflect the rhythm inherent in all movements in nature, sometimes tranquil swaying, and sometimes sublimated into a powerful spiral as a symbol of challenge and change. This spiral is a universal form of growth and evolution, from the galaxies in the universe to the helical structure of DNA, and alludes to our very existence and the spirit of the challenger who creates the future.

The particles of light express the moment when individual beings come together and create a new form. The particles gather by chance in the flow and become a collection of light, visually speaking to us that change is inevitable and beautiful.

“Spirals” encourages viewers to engage in a dialogue that transcends time and space, and poses questions about the possibilities that lie within us and the future.

layers – the creators 2024 edition –

This installation is an experimental work that illuminates our inner nature, which lies dormant in our daily living spaces, through the expression of light.

The strings used in this work are twisted by the residents of the area, incorporating their memories into the work. The images that illuminate the string are inspired by the local nature and decoded by programming based on actual video recordings.

layers – saiki edition –

This installation expresses the diverse cultures and connections between people rooted in Saiki through the threads spun by Saiki citizens and illuminates the region’s richness in vivid color by shining light on these threads.

The invisible relationships woven into the fabric of life and history are made visible through the shape of the threads, and the light shown on them reveals the unique cultural layers of Saiki. The work attempts to express through light the invisible connections woven by the memories of the land and its people.

This artwork uses light to show the presence of people. When a visitor moves, speaks, or makes sound, the lights change color and brightness.

For example, a loud sound can make a strong flash, and a quiet voice can make a soft glow. The lights react in real-time, so people feel connected to the artwork. Visitors and the artwork become one, sharing the space.

This experience helps people notice how their small actions can change the place. The work shows how we are all connected and how our presence can make a difference.

This installation captures the unique beauty of a quiet scene where the ecosystem of plants and sunlight converge, creating a seemingly ordinary yet one-of-a-kind shaded space.

From moving lights positioned on the ceiling, soft shadows are cast across the space, revealing layers of dappled light reminiscent of sunlight filtering through leaves. As viewers walk through the space, the shadows shift subtly, presenting new scenes with each step—a gentle invitation to notice the often-overlooked depth of nature’s complexity.

Through this work, I hope you experience the intricate beauty nestled within fragments of everyday life. Even a “simple” shaded spot is an irreplaceable landscape born from the interplay of plants and light—a space that quietly resonates with the heart.

The theme of this installation is “reincarnation” inspired by “Wattsu River” in Hokkaido, Japan.

Raindrops falling from the sky run down the mountain and become part of the river, enriching our lives. The river’s water that flows out to the sea returns to the sky and reincarnation and reconnects with our lives.

To feel Hokkaido’s magnificent nature, this installation expresses the dynamic flow of nature’s reincarnation.

My Time, Their System

Even though we all live in the same solar system, we are affected differently depending on where we are.

By putting your finger on the sun on the screen, you can be the sun shining on the world. By putting your finger on the white dots on the screen, you can be illuminated by the sun.

As the sun, you can control time, but as the white dots, the sun is in total control of time. By feeling both sides, you can think about the different “systems.”

1 Second

This work expresses the shape of time and the trajectory of each lifetime.

By tapping on the screen for what you feel is one second, a waveform corresponding to that second is drawn on the screen.

Another point I wanted to express was the intersection of the different lines as different people touch the screen, thus creating waveforms. As the lines connect and overlap, it shows how people can share or experience the same moments in time.

The second you think of is always a little different from the second the world thinks of.

The Rule of the World

The themes were ‘clocks’ and ‘systems.’

First, we thought about time and how it might have two meanings. One is the time we feel in ourselves as we spend our days. For example, it passes quickly when we are having fun, and when we are bored, it feels very slow. The other is the “universal time” that functions as a system.

Especially with regard to the second, it is designed to keep the economy and society relevant. But I feel that this has led people to live their lives being bound by time. Therefore, through artwork that allows the visitor to feel each time alternately, I would like to present this work as a chance to think about time and systems.

The first one is “The Rule of the World.” In the exhibition space, the clock ticked away as a symbolic presence. And sometimes it affected the world by ringing a bell.

enérgeia

Energy neither increases nor decreases, but its total mass changes form and makes a resonance with its surroundings. Energy belongs to no one. But it exists as the power of life for all living things. Where is the line between energy within us and outside of us? What’s the border between “same energy” and “different energy”? I would like to seek out the boundaries of this formless property by feeling and gazing into the constant energy.
